“The World Needs Brilliant, Imaginative and Determined People Like Dave”
-Bear Grylls
A year and a half ago, 26 year old Englishman Dave Cornthwaite woke up and looked at his reflection in the mirror. Staring himself straight in the eyes, he muttered ‘I hate my job, I hate my life…’ This was a man in the midst of a personal crisis; something had to be done. Upon realizing that the only light in his life at that time was Elsa his skateboard, Dave decided to plan an adventure, something to really test his mettle. Then it hit him; how about skating from Perth to Brisbane, 6000 km across Australia?
Dave set off from Perth with a whole continent laid out in front of him. But to reach Brisbane and the finish line, smashing the existing world record by more than a 1000kms, Dave faces every obstacle that Australia can throw at him. Since it is a country the size of Europe with some of the most diverse and harsh landscapes on the planet, this has never been done before for good reason.
Dave and his 8-strong team face the challenge of 40 C degree heat (about 104 F degrees) on the desolate Nullabor Desert, 1000 km of nothing in an uninhabitable landscape. Viewers watch as Dave battles the morale-sapping mountainous climbs of the Great Divide. It’s not only the landscape that proves a challenge, relationships are strained, team members are pushed to breaking point and run-ins with the law all add to the task at hand.
Skateboarding further than anyone has ever skated before, a distance greater than London to New York, is an adventure like no other, a personal battle and a life changing adventure.
