In a land as colorful and rich with
diversity as India, it is hard to believe that there is something
which unites the country’s one billion people. Yet INDIA: LOVE
AND DEVOTION shows that despite their religious and cultural differences,
most Indians share a common sense of spirituality and devotion. From
the Ganges River to the Taj Mahal, INDIA: LOVE AND DEVOTION takes
viewers on a vibrant one-hour journey through the crowded streets,
bustling markets, and peaceful deserts of India.
INDIA: LOVE AND DEVOTION looks at the six main religions in India:
Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Jainism, Sikhism and Christianity, while
exploring the breath-taking architecture and landscape of India’s
holy sites. In a fascinating journey to mystical pilgrimage
sites, we visit the sacred city of Varanasi on the Ganges River,
revered by Hindus who believe in the water’s healing properties.
Other landmarks with strong religious significance include the beautiful
city of Azmir, a holy place for Muslims; Delhi with it’s majestic
monument to Sikhism; the cosmic city of Jaipur with its enchanting
Lake Palace; the erotic Hindu temples of Khajuraho; and “the
ultimate expression of love,” the Taj Mahal, built by Muslim
Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. This timeless documentary
also looks at religious beliefs which manifest themselves in daily
Indian life, including the ideals of oneness with nature, respect
for all living beings, non-violence and a tolerance for diversity.
The film captures Indian families during harvest time, camel farmers
in Pushkar, and Indian dancers in Rajasthan. By examining both the
spiritual and practical aspects of life, INDIA: LOVE AND DEVOTION
gives viewers an understanding of the way devotion regulates daily
practices.
