The Emmy-nominated video documentary Ties
That Bind captures the conversations of seven Chicago women who joined
in an effort to discuss what unifies and divides us. These women are
leaders of their Jewish, Christian, Muslim, African-American, Hispanic
and Euro-American communities. Their experiences bear valuable lessons
for all of us.
Ties That Bind premiered in Barcelona at the Parliament of World’s
Religions’ and UNESCO’s “Pathways to Peace” conference and has aired
several times on Chicago’s PBS Television Station, WTTW11. Since
then, a dozen town hall meetings have brought local diverse groups
together. They have been hosted by organizations ranging from senior
centers to high schools to houses of worship.
The documentary is being used across America: at corporate diversity
sessions at Exelon and Hyatt corporations, with high school students
from the National Conference for Community and Justice’s “Youth
in Diversity” Program, at major conferences like PBS’ National Center
for Outreach and National Humanities Councils, and as an interfaith
template for the Congress on Urban Ministry (SCUPE).
