Epic Camp is a triathlon camp that pits the strength and endurance of some of the world's top Ironman athletes against the uncompromising New Zealand landscape as they swim, cycle and run 2,200km through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world.
Going Long, Going Hard follows the athletes every inch of the way, recording the highs and lows, the trials and tribulations of one of the most grueling training camps in the world. One athlete is back on the road after a terrifying crash which saw her suffer multiple spinal fractures; another is on the camp after beating a cancer he was told was terminal; another has never done anything like this before in her life. The athletes face heat, cold, wind, rain and sun, risk injuries which could end their careers, and along the way, forge friendships which will never be broken.
The production features comedy, as the wheel drops off the trailer with all the food in it; drama, as one athlete is threatened with being left behind as his bike falls apart; and grandeur as the team tackles the iconic road up Mount Ruapehu. Using fly-on-the-wall techniques, special "athlete cams" and video diaries, Going Long, Going Hard takes you into a world of athletics that most don’t experience firsthand.
